Puerto Vallarta Art and Wine Festival is February 21st

The Puerto Vallarta Yacht Club is hosting the 8th annual Art and Wine Festival in Nuevo Vallarta on Sunday, February 21st from 3 to 6 pm.

There will be fine arts on display from local artists, painters, photographers, jewelry designers, and metal workers. Also many wines will be available for tasting from bargain bottles to a $60+ category. Gourmet appetizers will be serverd.

A silent auction and raffle will also take place featuring locally produced jewelry, art and sculptures, fine wines, and gift certificates to local restaurants. The raffles grand prize is a 5 liter oak barrel filled with Tequila.

Cost for admission is 150 pesos, which includes 10 tasting tickets.

New Article Says Mexico Is Safer Now Than Ten Years Ago

Despite the heavy reporting in the news on Mexico's rougher areas, particularly where drug cartels operate, the plain fact is that Mexico is safer than it was 10 years ago.

According to a recent article online at San Luis Obispo Tribune violent crimes are down quite a bit from 2000 levels.

That fact, despite the drug cartel violence that we read and hear about, is a testament to the effectiveness of the changes in governance and policing in Mexico over the presidential terms of Calderon and Fox. Furthermore tourist cities like Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, and Playa Del Carmen are even further insulated from crime as the local population, police, and civic leaders understand the importance of tourism to their economy.
